Salkantay Trek full Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco – Challacancha – Soraypampa

Wake up at 4:30 am, because we are going to pick up you since 5 to 5:30am to travel until Mollepata village for a 3 hours approximately.  where we will have time to buy some last supplements or for breakfast, then we will continue until Challacancha place, where we will meet the support staff, and start our hike for a 3 hours until Soraypampa base camp for the lunch. In the afternoon, we are going to visit the Humantay Lake, to that lake we need to hike like 1 hour and half up. The camping and dinner is on Soraypampa.

Day 2: Soraypampa – Salkantay – Wayracmachay

After breakfast, we are going for 3 hours with slow hike until Suyrucocha point for lunch, from where we can see the salkantay glacier and some falcons flaying over us. Then we are continuing for a 1 hour uphill until Salkantay Pass and Salkantay Lake, after visit the places we will start to descent until Wayracmachay base camp for the dinner, during the night if the weather is good we will have some spectacular views of Salkantay.

Day 3: Wayracmachay – Colpapampa - la Playa

Today after the nutritive meals, we will say good-bye Salcantay, because we are continuing descending until Colpapampa for the lunch, after the lunch the adventure continue for a 4 hours more to La Playa base camp for a dinner. This day the trek is inside the jungle, and we will have the opportunity to see some birds, waterfalls, fruit farms.

Day 4: La Playa – Llucmabamba – Coffe Plantations – Santa Teresa Hot Spring.

Today we have a small hike until Llucmabamba base camp, from here, we are going to know the coffee process since the plantation until obtain the product; and then we will have the lunch. In the afternoon we are going to the Santa Teresa host spring to swimming and finally come back to the base camp.

Day 5: Llucmabamba - Llactapata - Aguas Calientes

Today after a delicious breakfast, we are hiking uphill for a 3 hours approximately until Llactapata, there we see the archaeological site, and we can see the Machupicchu Mountain and the valley. after that we are going to descend until Hydroelectric place for a lunch and take a rest, after that in the afternoon we can continue walking for a 3 hours more until Aguas Calientes Village or we can go by train, where we will have a hotel for the last night, today the dinner is in a local restaurant.

Day 6: Visit to Machu Picchu – Cusco.

Today is the most important, because we are going to visit the Incas city Machu Picchu. Like a 5am, we will take the bus until Machu picchu, where we will have two hours guided tour for the most important points, then you are free to take some pictures or to explore more, at 12:00pm we need to come back to the Village walking or by bus for the lunch. At 4pm, we are going to come back by train until Ollantaytambo or Poroy village, from where we will be transferred in a van to Cusco.

  • ENTRANCE TIKETS: In our treks, the entrance to Salkantay Trail + humantay lake, MachuPicchu archaeological site are included. In addition we include the entrance Ticket for the Thermal baths of Santa Teresa, and transport cost.
  • BRIEFING: Two or one night before your expeditions, we are going to your hotel or you will come to our office for your briefing, it is an information session for the tril to be ready to 100% for the trek day.
  • PROFESSIONAL GUIDES: All our guides studied English and Tourism at the University, institutes, and have many months giving support to the trekkers before to start to work in this kind of adventures like a guide.
  • HOTEL:The activity include 4 nights in tents and 1 night hotel in Aguas Calientes village. We include a two star hotel with shared rooms (Double, Marital and Triple rooms). If you would like to upgrade your hotel level or prefer a single room, there will be an additional cost, and we can do the tour without hotel, if you prefer to book the hotel for Aguas Calientes for your own.
  • TRANSPORTATION: All the transportations during the trek are included, we will pick you up from your hotel at around 6 AM and carried to the trailhead (day 1). during the trail are included the transport from La Palta to Santa Teresa and Hotsprings (day 3), From Santa Teresa to Llucmabamba (day 4), one way trip bus ticket form Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu (day 5), your expedition train ticket and the transport from ollantaytambo to Cusco (day 5).
  • TRAIN: The last day of the tour, we will board the 18:25PM train from Aguas Calientes village to Ollantaytambo village. From where we transfer you to Cusco city in our car.
  • STORAGE DURING THE TREK: In the moment of the pre-departure briefing, we will provide you a small duffle bag to pack your things for the trail, this bag will carried by the horses with no option to get anything until the campsite. You should therefore bring a daypack in which you can carry your personal belongings such as camera, water and sunscreen, etc.The other part of your things that are not necessary for the trail, you can leave at hotel store or you can leave it with us until come back of the tour.
  • HORSES AND SUPPORT STAFF: We include horses and horsemen who is responsible for carrying your duffel (7 kg of bag) with your personal items. There is no additional fee for this. We will give you your duffel bag at your briefing session and this should be filled with the things you will need on your adventure, but not during the actual hiking time.During the trek you have to bring your own daypack with the essential things, because you will have access to your duffel bag only at your evening campsite.
  • EQUIPMENT: Do Adventures Peru has the best equipment. We use Kaylas tents with capacity for 4 person, but we put only 2 people. This allows some room to spread out and keep your duffels safely with you.
  • FOOD & CHEFS: Many of our customers comments about the wonders of our chefs. They make magic happen on the trail in a small tent over a single flame. The food is served family style, there will be plenty of options for everyone, and always food left over. If you are vegetarian, it is not problem for us, just tell us and you will have vegetarian food. Each day will consist of breakfast, lunch, happy hour with tea and snacks and dinner. Your last meal will be breakfast of the last day. Lunch the last day is not included.
  • WATER: We will supply all the water you need for your trek. This water will be boiled, filtered and then cooled down before distributing. You must supply your own water bottles or camelback and we recommend carrying about 3L. We will refill just each moorning and encourage you to drink as much as possible as you hike. Hydration is key to feeling great in the mountains, just in each breakfast, for another hand in each camping places have local villagers who sell bottles of mineral water, if you prefer you can buy as a way collaborate to obtain income. the prices are different according how far we are.
  • FIRST AID: Your safety is our number 1 concern. All our guides are trained to provide support in these causes. They all will have first aid kits and full oxygen bottle in case anything happens. We will get you off the trail as quickly and comfortably as possible, if needed and will make sure you get directly to a clinic for treatment. This is not something to worry about - but if something happens, we will be there for you.Note: before to do the trek or any type of adventure tour, we recommend you to visit your doctor and explain about the activity that will do, and please try to bring a small first aid bag each according to your conditions to stay peaceful.

  • RENTALS: Every trekker needs a sleeping bag when you choose a trek with camping. Inflatable air matts are optional, but do help in getting a good night sleep. Walking sticks are definitely encouraged and must have a rubber tip when bringing your own. If you do not have or want to bring any of the above, they are all available for rent:
  • HUAYNAPICCHU: Huaynapicchu is the mountain located inside the Machu Picchu Park and has beautiful views from the top. It takes 45 minutes to get to the top and then 45 minutes back down and is quite steep for those scared of heights. This is done after your tour of Machu Picchu and is $20 per person to hike. This is extremely popular and needs to be arranged at least a month or two prior to your trek. Please understand that we can not control weather and cloudy days will prevent perfect pictures.

This is a 2 star hotel and is based on shared rooms - either double, matrimonial or triple. If you prefer a single room you have to add $30 US per person. All the rooms include private bathrooms with hot showers and wifi. We can also upgrade your hotel if you prefer something a little fancier or we can do the tour without hotel, if you prefer to book the hotel for Aguas Calientes for your own. Please remember that the service you receive in Aguas Calientes will not be quite as good as Cusco.
